Come And Sail With Us

Your Journey Starts Here

Sailability Port Macquarie

Sailability Port Macquarie commenced in 2012 and is an all volunteer organisation dedicated to providing sailing for people with disabilities, regardless of age, gender or disability. Our clients embrace their sailing activities and find that sailing is fun and a safe and rewarding activity in which all can participate. We offer individual sailing with one of our volunteers in specially designed sailing dinghies. Carers confirm the differences that Sailability makes to the often very restrictive lives of our disabled friends.

People with all types of disabilities including Cerebral Palsy, MS, Spinal Bifida,Vision Impairment, Brain Injury and learning difficulties are catered for. People with restricted mobility are able to sail with us as well.

Sailability Port Macquarie is a part of Sailability NSW (Inc), which in turn is part of the worldwide Sailability organisation Click Here

Our Sailing Days

Sailability Port Macquarie We operate from September to May each year with about 4 weeks break in Dec / Jan when people are very busy. There are 2 days each fortnight that we sail at Rowland Reserve, Wednesdays from 9am till 2pm and Saturdays 9am till 2pm. Light refreshments are provided but not lunch.

For these programs we have a friendly group of volunteers, many of whom are experienced sailors, who take a range of persons with a disability for recreational sailing. We do offer basic sail training for people with a disability, and aim to give our sailors as much control of the boats as they can manage.

Come down and have a look, you don’t need to be a sailor, just a willingness to help others, particularly those with a disability

Volunteers Are Always Welcome

Programs such as Sailability could not exist without the dedicated support of volunteers. It is a very rewarding activity and wonderful opportunity to share your time and skills with some very enthusiastic and adventurous people. You don`t have to be a sailor to be a volunteer, landlubbers are also required for on-shore duties and we`ll teach you to sail.

Volunteers activities are many, varied and include:-

• Setting up ready for sailing, together with launching and retrieving boats.

• Sailing with our clients.

• Teaching people with a disability to sail.

• Skippering our safety boat.

• Radio and winch operation.

• Signing clients in, collecting fees, issuing receipts and helping with life jackets.

you would like to join our fantastic team of volunteers, we invite you to come down and see us in action. If you know of anyone in this category:-

Our Dinghies

We have a fleet of 9 Access 303s. Sailed by one or two people, the 303 has two sails and is steered with a joystick located in front of the sailors. A one metre keel (actually a weighed centreboard) offers outstanding stability. Seating is side by side and sailors recline in a webbing `lazy chair`.
